Coorg / Madikeri

Madikeri is headquarter of Coorg disrtict (Coorg is district name not any specific place name) One of the best holiday destination for those who loves greenery. Coorg is land of coffee estates. You can find greenery throughout year. Waterfalls, trekking, water sports and temples are the main attraction places in Coorg. Coorg is also know as “Scotland of India”


How to reach Coorg:

Coorg is 270 km from Bangalore and 106 km form mysore.  Buses : Well connected with buses from Bangalore and Mysore. Buses will take 5-6 hr from Bangalore. Three are 10+ buses(AC, Delux, Express) runs from Bangalore to Coorg. Price ranges from Rs 250 to Rs500 depending upon class of service like AC,Deluxe and Express.Please check : ksrtc.in for more details.

Map1: Driving routes from Bangalore to CoorgIf you are planning for drive then there are 3 drive routes:Route – 1 : Bangalore – Mandya – Srirangapattana – Hunsur – Kushal nagar – Madikeri   [ preferred route ]Route – 2 : Bangalore – Mandya – Srirangapattana – Hunsur – Gonikoppa – MadikeriRoute – 3 : Bangalore – Chnnarayapattana – Holenarasipur – Kushalnagar – Madikeri While going you can take route 1 and while returning you can take route 2. If you want less drive in ghat section then take route 1 for both sides (you will be skipping Irpu and Nagarahole National Park)

Best time to visit coorg:

Avoid rainy season i.e June to September. October to May is best time to Visit Coorg. In Winter average temperature will be 14 degree C. Many tourist chooses this season for coorg Visit. In Summer Coorg will be best place to relax.

Day 1 : Saturday

6 AM: Leave from Bangalore
8 AM : breakfast : Plenty of options : Bidadi tatte idli or Kamat Lokaruchi(52 KMS from bangalore) or Vasudev Adiga’s A2B (80km from bangalore) or maddur tiffany’s
11 AM : Reach Golden temple Bylakuppe (tibetan monastery)
12 noon : leave to Madikeri
1 PM : Reach Madikeri and checkin to Hotel and Lunch 
3 PM : Visit to Madikeri fort. You can spend 1 to 2 hr over there
5 PM : Visit to Raja’s seat garden
7 PM : Visit to Omkareshwara temple
7.30 PM : Walk on Madikeri streets to get feel of Madikeri
9 PM Dinner

Day 2 : Sunday:

 8 AM : Breakfast 
9 AM : checkout Hotel and journey towards Bhagamandala 
10 AM : Visit Sri Bhagandeshwara Temple and Triveni  sangama
11 AM : start towards Talakaveri 
11.30AM : Visit Talakaveri 
1 PM : start towords Irupu falls(You can Have lunch in Bhagamandala or in Virajpet) 
4 PM : reach Irupu falls 
6 PM : start your journey towards Bangalore
11.30PM : reach back to Bangalore

Golden temple (Bylakuppe Tibetan monastery) :

Tibetan monastery is located near to Kushalanagar. Buddha statue is attraction of this place.   Bylukuppe is a Tibetan settlement in which approx 70,000 Tibetans stays after the Chinese took over Tibet.
Distance from Madikeri : 35 KMS
Food and Stay : Near by town is Kushalnagar which is 5KMS from golden temple. Good restaurants and hotels are available.

Abbey Falls :

It is beautiful water falls just 6 kms away from Madikeri. Falls is located in private coffee estate. Post monsoon is best time to visit Abbey falls. In summer you can expect less water. If you can hire jeep/Auto in Madikeri to visit Abbey falls.

Abbey falls : You will find plenty of shops, you will get cooldrinks, Maggi, coconut water, Omlet, Plenty of space for parking

Raja’s seat Madikeri :

Raja’s seat is garden where you will find spectacular valley view. Raja’s seat name is because of Raja’s(Raja = King) of Coorg used to like this place and there is small structure in which Raja’s of coorg use to sit and enjoy beauty of Nature.

Omkareshwara temple Madikeri

Omkareshwara Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is a ancient temple built in 1820. Temple will be open from 6:30AM to 12 Noon And 5 PM to 8 PM.

Bhagamandala:

Sri Bhagandeshwara temple is place to visit in Bagamandala. Just opposite to temple you will find triveni sangam where 3 rivers Kaveri,Kannike and the mythical Sujyoti river joins.

Triveni sangam : Massage from fish ???, Can take bath in this place, Rest room and dress change rooms are available. Water in this place depends on season in which you are visiting. Generally Monsoon and post Monsoon you will find water. In summer water will be very less and taking bath in this river may not be possible

Talakaveri :

Birth place of famous river Kaveri. There is a small temple temple near to origin of the river Kaveri. Talakaveri place is 44 Km away from Madikeri and 8 km away from Bhagamandala. There are private buses from Madikeri to Bagamandal. You need to change bus in Bhagamandala for next 8 kms journey

Irupu falls:

Its located in south coorg. throughout year you can expect water in this falls. This falls is also known as Lakshmana Tirtha Falls. Total height of the falls is 170 ft. you can visit Rameshwara temple situated banks of river.
